notice a world of difference. so much for the name audi, which I think in latin means I listen. I don't want to listen anymore. now I just want to drive and try to forget this comparison.

Default earplugs... you can buy them and use em...

I on the other hand like to hear my car when I drive, makes me feel a bit more involved and attached to the experience. Something about silent engines and a total lack of wind noise bothers me. Toyota knows how to suck the fun out of any car.

I mean, when on the gas, it sounds smooth alright. it's just the idle that bothers me.

Default Yes...

For some (environmental?) reason my 2.8 idles between 640 and 680 RPM, and it doesn't sound pretty. The euro-version of the same engine idles at over 800 RPM, which sounds and feels a lot smoother.

Why does Lexus (and Hyundai!!!) have smooth running engines in the US? I'd like to know...

Default adjust your idle speed then, I think you might be able to do that on ndbw cars

the throttle cable should have some adjustment to it, I did that on my 944 once,

Default I think it's just because the idle is too low on the US model

The European V6 idles very smooth at about 820 RPM. Must be a differently programmed ECU.
