Do you guys think this is due to a bad ABS module?

Do you guys think this is due to a bad ABS module?
This happens on and off with my 99 A4 2.8. usually at anytime after I start the car and drive off, the ABS light suddenly lights up, the brake light starts blinking and the low oil warning light also comes on. at the same time, the tach needle drops to ZERO rpm even though the engine is running. If I have the A/C on, it would quit working too. The local dealership said it's a faulty ABS control module and wants $1300 for part and labor. A Passat owner in the waiting room who must have overheard the conversation between me and the service rep pulled me aside and suggested that I take the unit off and send it to Auto & Truck Electronics in FL for rebuild, which is what he had done. I don't know if I should folow his advice, but I'll tell ya it sure beats the $1300 repair tab that I'm looking at if I decide to have it done by the dealer. I just want to know if anyone else on this forum has had similar experience and what they've done about it. I've searched the archive, and what I read seems to confirm the stealership's diagnosis, but nobody seems to have experienced all the signs I describe above. I've had this car for 6 years now and still love it everytime I'm behind the wheel. Thanks in advance for all your inputs.

Sounds like a bad connection somewhere, with all those coming on
at once. But i'm far from an expert. Unless they will guarantee your money back if it doesn't fix the problem, I would look into other options first.

Sounds exactly like the problem I have encountered...ABS, brake, and oil light coming on, and tach dropping to zero. Anybody know what the problem is?
