Default DON'T take for granted you lug nuts are tight..................

It started out as a squeak, then a squeak and what I thought was just rough pavement. Then the front end was shivering. I was out on the town, and I pulled over 4 times trying to figure out what was going on. Didnt have any tools with me so not much I could do.

By the time I got home vibration/noise/the "thoughts of this is going to be expensive" were bad. Jacked up the car to find *4* very loose lugs(maybe half tight) and 1 missing one. Thank God the wheel didnt fall off. Kinda relived though, at least it wasnt a major repair.(thought I had a drive axle joint go out)

Do yourself a favor and check you lugs!

Default I whip out the torque wrench and give em 90 lbs every time I'm about to take a road trip

I often get up to 100+ MPH on the way up to San Fran...you're assured death if you lose a wheel at triple digits in a street car.

Default I hear you... Its easy to forget...

I just checked mine... 85 ft/lbs cross-torqued in a star pattern.

I actually did that once. Its easy to overlook.

you have the car up on a lift, put a wheel on, snug the bolts... and forget to torque them.

Default Yep, bad experience. I had a wheel come off, Crager mag on van, in WORST part of town. Got it fixed

and on my way. Was a major pain-in the-*** to get van (which is normally a good foot off the ground, up far enough with the scissors jack to get my spare wheel on the van. (1978 Ford van, in 1983...)

Default Sometimes the lugs will loosen even if you do torque them correctly...

That's why it's important to check them every so often.

Having said that, I have had the same experience as you TWICE?!?!?!?!? so I know the feeling all too well.
