Dumb question: on 99.5, what is the thing next to rear seat ashtray?

I believe that's an on board diagnostic computer port that has been deactivated.

Default So...it should basically be empty, right? (more)
I was cleaning my car, and noticed it...looked like a power outlet...It seemed jammed, and wouldn't open...but then it popped open, and came off...
underneath was just a small compartment (with carpet) thought it was maybe for an extra cig lighter...

I'm going to my dealer tomorrow anyway...I figure I'll ask them...just wondering what it was, if it was important/strange...

Default Your Audi dealer can use that port....
to punch in codes to do such things as raise windows/close sunroof with your key and I believe it is also used for diagnostics.

Default Its a rudiment left over
From pre-OBDII days. Now its useless as there are no wires or connections.
