Default Good looken, I dig the yellow/black look.

The painted caps look sharp.

Here are some shots of my new '99 1.8T.. 110,000 miles is still pretty new.. right?

Pictures taken a few moments ago. I am still in the process of changing the timing belt right now

Default Thanks. Your bay doesn't look dirty either....

While you're in TB job, best time to check for leaks/clean/replace things

Default That's not the way. You can do that, but then you'd have to...

...cover all electrical connections, exposed wires etc. and still high pres. washer isn't safe. First get one of those engine degreaser/ cleaners and follow the procedure that's on the can. If your engine is extremely dirty, covered with layers of oil, dirt, you name it, than you can do wash like that. If it's not bad, you should just take your time and do it my way.
If dirt isn't reachable (for example under intake manifold), wait until you're gonna have to remove/replace some parts and then have at it.
I replaced my valve cover gasket, intake manifold gasket, coolant tank etc. While everything was out, I cleaned all the s**t. Now, after 2 years it's still pretty clean and oil free down there.

You can attach a hose to the drain on your hot water heater. No chemicals needed then.
