Default Is it easy to replace a cracked side mirror?

I had a tiny crack in the passenger side mirror since delivery. The dealer got the part in, but I don't feel like leaving the car there or waiting 2 weeks for an appointment.

Can the mirror (the glass part) be replaced in under 30 min or so. I was thinking of going to the dealer replacing it myself and giving him the old part.

Mine was cracked at delivery and they replaced it in 5 min. I think you need some type of glue to attach the new one so I'd leave that to the dearler. Just make an appointment for a walk in service.

Default Check this URL ...

There's an FAQ available on doing a swap for sport mirrors, and the author tagged it as a 2 person job unless you're experienced at doing this sort of stuff.

Might want to let the dealer do it.

I think he only needs to replace the glass, not the entire mirror assembly

Default It's very easy!

Just pop out the old one and pop in the new one.

Here is an email I received when I replaced mine.

______________________

Fitting instructions:

The mirrors are a "ball & socket" type fixing. The mirror glass being the socket, and the notor being the ball. You need to firmly, but carefully pull the old mirror glass off the motor. When the glass is off, there are two short wires going to the back of the glass for the heating elements. Pull the two wires off the mirror and fit them onto the new mirror glasses.

When fitting the new glasses onto the motors, you need to push firmly, to click them onto the motor

BUT.................

YOU MUST NOT PRESS THE MIRROR GLASS AT EACH SIDE !!!!!!!
If you do THE MIRROR GLASS WILL MOST DEFINATLY BREAK IN HALF !!!!!!!!

WHAT YOU MUST DO IS:

Attach the wires to the back of the glass, line up the mirror to the motor and using THE PALM OF YOUR HAND.... PUSH THE DEAD CENTRE OF THE MIRROR GLASS, until it clicks firmly onto the motor.

MUST push in the exact middle of the glass, anywhere else WILL BREAK THE GLASS IN TWO !!!

Default But to replace the glass ...

... you still need to get inside the mirror assembly itself, no?

From that FAQ, seems kinda like a tedious task at best.

Default It is easy! I just replaced mine last week with "blind spot" replacement glass. Great improvement

over stock (web order from partsforaudi.co.uk). The easiest way to get the old mirror off is to adjust the mirror to a full right or full left tilt so you can get your fingers behind the glass & push it off the "ball." The "ball" that the glass mounts on is about 2" wide. The new glass fits over the ball & you press it on...use your palm dead center over the ball. Replacing both mirrors took 10 minutes ...tops.
