ECT sensor probs and climate control probs

ECT takes a long long time to get up to middle mark. it doesnt really go to middle mark, it goes to just the left of the middle marker. that is IF i stay idling for a long long time. IF i drive on a highway, the temp needle goes down halfway from the cold mark to the middle mark. If i go stop and go traffic again, it goes to the middle mark. if its really really cold out, sometimes the temp needle only raises about 1 or 2 marks up from cold mark.

whats wrong with it?

my climate control doesnt really have climate control. at night, i have the temp set to AUTO 24*C but it really really gets cold. the fan goes to 1 bar fan speed, but the cold coming out of the vents is really really cold. its as if the compressor isnt cutting off like on most cars and isnt getting to regulate the temperature.

whats wrong with it? what sensor is it there?

car is an A4 1.8T '98 with 55k kilometers

hasnt anyone encountered this yet? guys. I need help. tried to search the forums around but came up with non-similar results.

Probably a thermostat

Not sure about your climate control problem, but the coolant temperature sounds like your thermostat is stuck open. My 2.8 was doing the same thing and the thermostat fixed it.
