ECU # Compatability
I'm trying to find out what the difference between these ECU #'s are. Is it just the year the car was made ?? Also, are they interchangeable?

8D0 907 557 N
8D0 907 557 C
I have a 99 VW Passat with 8D0 907 559 P and I'm looking to put a chipped 8D0 907 557 N in. Do you think this will work ?
Thanks!

Yes
The part # of the ECU must match the one that is being replaced. ECUs can be coded for either manual or automatic depending on application, but the part #s have to match.

some....
there are supersessions in part numbers. Modules with loaded software do tend to change part numbers at will in etka over time. What type of emissions was the ECM meant for federal or ca or northeast... etc.
If it has the same part number then it will work if it is a good replacement part. Anything else gets risky and the value of the trasaction must be considered.
