Engine Issues

I woke up Christmas morning and my car wouldn't start. It seems that the battery is fine as well as the starter because I can hear it trying to start but the engine does not turn over. A few months back my mechanic told me that I was loosing some compression in one of the cylinders when the engine was hot. Has the problem just caught up to me and the engine ceased? Some have told me it might be an ignition amp or fuel pump problem but I have no idea. My car is a 2.8l 12v.
If you could suggest anything that I might do to determine the problem that would be great.

Same problem for me on Christmas....

I woke up and my car wouldn't turn over. After a few attempts to get it started, I was about to give up and get it flat bedded to the dealer.(still under warranty). So I unchipped it to get ready for the dealer and it started. I think the ECU just needed to be reset or something, b/c now it is fine. For you I would just unplug the ECU for a few minutes and hope that that works.

pull of the front cover and chk if timing belt moves when starting.....

good possibility that the water pump seized. the t belt runs off the water pump so it equals big probs when it seizes. good chance theres head damage. good luck. cross ur fingers.

Ok I tried to hear for the fuel pump but could not hear it filling up, could this be because the tank is 3/4 full? Also I noticed that after tring to start the car the <b>oil light</b> comes on and starts beeping (low pressure??). Could this be my problem.

BTW, I see the Timming belt move so that's fine as well.

Do you have spark? Check that first. If no spark, then it's an ignition issue. No spark = no start. If there's spark then check the fuel pressure rail (there's a shrader valve there) for fuel pressure. No pressure = no start. If you've got fuel pressure and spark then it's likely a timing issue. Are you SURE the timing belt is intact?

I can see the belt moving on the wheel so I think it's fine.

How do I check the spark? Take out a plug and start the car?

Sorry for my ignorance but I have no idea how to access the pressure rail. Shrader value?
