Intermitent engine start problem, please help

Engine would not start, when key is turned the starter starts working but the engine does not fire. After trying for several times car starts normally. When problem happens cannot communicate to computer using vag-com. Sometimes get fault code unable to communicate with engine sensors. Any1 had this problem b4? Is it ECU related? TIA

Could be the fuel pump or battery failure.

Have you done any mods lately before this started happening?

Haven't done any mods for a while. Speed sensor seems to be ok. Will look into fuel pump shortly...

When it happens, can you talk to any module via the VAG-COM?

If you can talk to something, then the battery is at least provided a small amount of current to power up some loads. If you can't talk to anything, I'd say it's a general electrical issue. If you can't talk to the ECU only, then it's likely either an ECU issue, or a power issue for the ECU only (bad relay, bad fuse).
