engine overheating
Hi all, i have a 97 1.8t quattro automatic. I chipped it last week with an APR chip and now loving the extra power. However, after driving it for a while i can see that my coolant temp gauge and oil gauge in the car are both going up to about 110c. Any suggestions of what i need to do? i am lost since i am not knowledgeable mechanically. Thanks

Re: turn on the ac and see if the electric radiator fan is running......
come to think of it i haven't change the coolant since two summers ago. I'll try and see about the electric radiator fan thing. Thanks for your reply

when did you do the timing belt?....
wisdom here is 4yrs or 60K mi. if you're close or over that it's time. the other common problem which causes over heating is a failed water pump, the impeller separates from the shaft. you can buy a timing belt kit from several vendors here, i got my last one from purems.com. the kit includes the front part of the water pump and a thermostat as well as all the acc. belts.

my electric radiator fan is running fine. I'm gonna go and get a coolant flush and see if that fix the overheating problem. If not then i'll get the timing belt thing done. Thank you for being so helpful

good luck.....
if you do the timing belt you should do the valve cover gasket and the cam end seals at the same time as it's easiest with the tb off. this will also let you check the cam galleries for signs of sludge. you should read the faq if you intend to keep the car for any lenth of time. the tech section also has allot of useful info.<ul><li><a href="https://forums.audiworld.com/a4/msgs/2299748.phtml">https://forums.audiworld.com/a4/msgs/2299748.phtml</a</li></ul>
