engine ticking...
My engine has been making a slight ticking noise and there's been a slight vibration in the steering wheel for a little while now. I thought it might just be how the engine sounded, but I heard a few others at the NE Audi meet this weekend and they were all quiet. I was hoping it was the spark plugs but I just changed those today and that wasn't it.... the noise is coming from the valve area... is this a serious problem or just some engines like develop this over time?.. I'm still technically Audi assured for another day, and I'm wondering if I should freak out and run to the dealer and try to get them to fix it under warranty.

I have a 2000 A4 1.8. My engine has been ticking for over 60K (at 108K now). It will tick for a little while and then quit. The ticking increases with throttle. I've heard that there is a filter on the back of the engine that can clog, but as for the specifics of this, I know not. My tech isn't sure what it is and it hasn't caused any problems so far...knock on wood.

Worst case scenario is that you have something loose or hitting inside one of the valves, but that is unlikely and there is nothing you can do is that is the case anyways.
But since it is under warranty, you should insist that the dealership find the problem. In case it is actually an internal failure and requires a rebuilt, you can get it taken care of under warranty.
