fault codes and rough acceleration

fault codes and rough acceleration
last night driving home from work, my car threw a CEL. i VAG'd it, and found a fault code of:
17536 - Fuel Trim: Bank 1 (Mult): System too Lean
the all-mighty search function pulled up that the most likely cause was a failing MAF, and could also be a bad diverter valve or something. (i had the MAF in my S4 go as well. insert rant on quality here).
i cleared the fault code, and went to bed.
this morning when i got in to drive back to work, the car had no power at all. it was surging and bucking like it was firing one or more cylinders at random or something. but, it drove fine after about one minute. i was going to drive around the block and then park it back at home, but it 'cleared' up.
the CEL didn't come back on. well, yet. we'll see what happens on the way home.
does this sound like a bad MAF?
