Fender Roller Question
Hey Everyone,
So I am in the process of getting some new rims for Da' Melange and am going a little wider on tires...235/40/18s...I've read with the 235s I will probably experience some rubbing issues.
So my question is can I go ahead and roll my fender now before the rims come in? I'm not exactly familiar on the "procedure" but I know a local guy in the VW/Audi club I'm in that has a fender roller I can borrow....all I know is I need a heat gun so far, advice/comments/assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

you need to be careful about going past the point where the fender liner screw is located.
you can bend the fender itself, not just the lip.
I did slighly on my car on the driver's side, which you can see in pics from time to time, but you really can't see it in person. You can see it here were the light hits it correctly to see the little bend in the fender, right above the spoke of the wheel pointing at it:

you don't really need to go past that point, since you just need (if you need at all) to roll where the highest point of the tire would hit, which is to the left of that.

Take you time and dont be affraid to heat it up..
the more you heat it the better. Start with the fender roller pushing slightly up to get the lip bending in. Then gradually adjust so that it is pulling out and up slightly. The fender should be so hot you cant really touch it. That screw will be removed and just start the bend before the roller hits it. The other tricky part is where the fender already has a factory rolled portion in it. It will roll easier and pull out farther then the rest so be careful and watch it in the light as you go. You will most likly have to trim the innner fender up because it wont reach the fender anymore. Use the heat gun and stretch it as much as possible before cutting/trimming.

justa4 has it right.. take your time man.
heat up the lip "significantly" and work slowly. I was a retard on my driver side (mainly cause my fender was already fvcked). I just went ahead and rolled it as fast as i could. Then i thought "HEY I WONDER IF I CAN MAKE IT LOOK WIDEBODY!" so i raised the little wheel past the lip. and started rolling the whole fender arch to make it look more aggressive. IT worked! until all the bondo started cracking on the driver side fender. I loved/hated my green a4... it was in an accident before i bought it and i wasn't aware. umm... anyways.. .. . . .

i wouldn't get the fender that hot IMHO...
cuz you run the risk of bubbling the paint... not a good idea in my book. Get it hot, but be careful. not to scare you, but that's just a risk.
big 2nd on that factory cut out on the fender... if you don't put JUST the right amount of pressure on it, it won't roll as evenly as the other stuff... that's the part where Jeff was pointing out on his car... I had a helluva time trying to get it even on his car when I rolled the fenders. Eventually got it pretty good, but it's only a 1" area at most, so if you don't get it after the first 2 passes or so, it's kinda hard to fix w/o really flaring out the fender.

I'm thinking about doing the same thing...
I have 235/45/17's on 17x8 wheels. I'm going to be putting H&R street springs on it, I assume the tires will rub if I don't roll the fenders?
