Default A few questions about snow tires

I have just 2500 miles on my 4 month old 2001.5 A4 1.8T with Q,Tip, ESP. I have the stock Eagle LS 205/60/15 tires, a M&S rated tire. I live in Syracuse NY, well known for its winters and live in the country up a hill. Will I need real snow tires? Sears has Blizzaks on sale for $75 for 205/60/15, a good deal?? What other snows are good? If I put snows on my stock Audi wheels with the idea of getting new wheels and tires, 16 or 17s, in the spring, does anyone want the Eagles really cheap? If so e-mail me and I'll give some details. I figure they would be great "snows" for someone who really doesn't need snows. Also, since I have a full size spare on a stock wheel, should I just keep that as the spare for whatever I end up with in the spring? Thanks all for your replies.

Default Why not trade the Eagles in to the tire store for credit towards snows?

Snows + quattro is the ultimate winter setup.
If those are Blizzak LM-22, then $75 is a heck of a good deal.
AW favorites for performance snow tires include: Dunlop Wintersport M2, Michelin Pilot Alpin, Pirelli Wintersport 210, Nokian Hakka, Blizzak LM22.
I'd keep the spare the way it is. It's just for temporary emergency use anyway.

Default I just got Dunlop Wintersport M2's and they're sweet! I hear Blizzak LM22's are good too...(more)

I don't live in an area where it snows much at all, I just go skiing enough to believe it warrants buying them...almost nailed a Dodge Ram last year with my stock Dunlop SP8000's the one time I was able to go skiing last year.

The two tires that I mentioned are both "European High Speed Winter Tires" so they give up very little performance-wise and are great tires all around. They're rated to 130mph! Of course, after the snow's gone, you shouldn't keep them on anymore. I think it's worth the investment though. I'm getting new wheels & tires come spring as well. Wintersport's are $105 at Tirerack, Blizzak's (in your size are WS-50) $76.

Good luck!
