I finally a spotted 2002 A4 in person, on PCH today. I played ring-around-the-Audi with him from about Entrada to Topanga Canyon. It was a very nice greyish blue, with manufacturer's plates. It was also debadged with the exception of rings on the decklid. I caught the attention of its driver who, after realizing I was checking the car out pretty thoroughly, gave me a thumbs up. My guess is that he was headed out to the the VAG Group emissions testing facility in Westlake Village.
Like others, I do like the car better in the flesh, than I do in photos. It does have a refined look, though I still find that it looks too much like the E36 BMWs. The tail isn't as bad as I thought, but I still prefer the current model.
I'll likely end up with one when they do an S version in a couple of years.
