Default To Flush or Not To Flush!!!

My coolant level fell below MIN and in buying antifreeze, its instructions call for a flush of the system. The Audi owners manual seems to imply just an addition is necessary. Which do you recommend??

Default If it's pink, don't let it sink...if it's brown, flush it down.

Please use the dealer/OEM fluid, as recommended.

I think it's G12 or something like that.

If you're under 50k, I'd say just add. If over, flush it. Nothing is "lifetime", especially when you starting mod'ing these cars.

Default They want to sell you as much antifreeze as humanly possibly...

Don't flush the cooling system unless you switch to a different kind of coolant (G11 to G12), or unless you had some sort of contamination.

You should change your coolant each time a metal part in the cooling system is replaced. That means with each new waterpump you should get the coolant replaced. A flush won't hurt, but if the old coolant was clean, then I don't see the necessity.

If the coolant was a little low, just add a 50:50 mix of water* and antifreeze.

*Yes, I use destilled water

Default Hey Kris!

You mentioned purple G12 Plus the other day. Were you kidding? I actually asked the parts guy at a VW dealer when I bought new spark plugs, and he was rather unamused. ;-)

so, I have to go to the dealer, I guess. I bought Peak, which had the Ethylene Glycol. Does it have to be that specific (i.e. G12)???

Default I was not kidding. My VW dealer sold it to me.. If I still have the bottle at home I'll post a pic..

The G12 in gallons was a deal, but the G12+ in liter bottle is not, compared to Pentosin..

Default Yes, get the proper stuff. DO NOT use anything but the VW/Audi stuff,

OR you can use Pentosin G001200, which is the same stuff.

Default Who knows. It smells the same, but the color is much darker.

It's not nearly as neon looking as G12, or Pentosin for that matter.
