Default Ford Excursion... minimal A4 content..

Sorry for the off-topic, but I need to vent.

First i would like to say that the Excursion is ridiculous. I was driving beside one a couple of days ago, and I couldn't even see the driver. When I passed the BUS (literally, more later), I saw the typical large SUV driver, a mid-aged soccer mom.

Now about the BUS comment. My friend who works at Ford Motor Co. told me that the Excursion is acutally (Gasp!) built on a chassis intended for mid-sized school buses!

Ford and Chevy, if you are listening, you guys are building unsafe, mal-handling, bad outward visibility, long braking distance, air polluting, ugly giant metal boxes on wheels. This "who got the biggest SUV on the planet" thing has gone too just a little too far!

Thanks for listening guys.

Default It's the F-350 pickup chassis, I believe (more)

I don't know if they put a school bus on it; maybe the really, really small busses. Really, though, the Excursion isn't any bigger than existing full-size vans. It weighs more, however. I'm not defending it, because I just don't see that many people have a need for it. If you really need that much space, get a van, since the excursion is really too big for off-road anyway.

Default The Ford Executioner is based on the F-Series Super Ungainly chassis redneck machine.....

If you know how huge those F-Series Super Duty trucks are, the Executioner is as ungainly as those Super Ungainly "workhorse".
When I first saw the first shipment of Executioners on my local freeway, everyone on the freeway slowed down; we all thought "what if those Executioner rear-ended or side impact our cars?" Its damn front bumper is at our rear windshield. As someone at vwvortex general message board stated that he saw a Maxima being rear-ended by an Executioner, the Maxima lost the whole rear end including the rear windshield.
Ford Executioner, Chevy Subdivision, GMC Yukon Oversize along with all those full-size pick-up trucks are the symbol of American's automotive culture of:
1) Ungainly
2) Unsophiscated
3) Thirsty on gas
4) Ugly as hell
However, all those Big 3 extremely proud of their truck category becaues its "tough", its thirsty, its highly unsophiscated and super profitable. Remember how high the margin on Lincoln Navigator?
When the gas prices are getting unbelieveably high recently, an energy crisis is much easier than decades ago because of those monopoly OPEC organization. If thing like energy crisis happens again, those ungainly SUVs and pick-up trucks will be disappear overnight.

Default Dont get me started...

This is by far my absolute favorite rant topic. I am in Chicago, and i used to have a truck in college, because i hauled all my stuff home, i went off-roading, and it was good in winter. But the last thing i want is another truck now.

But this aint 1993, and now all we see are soccer moms in increasingly large vehicles. Even a good driver is hard pressed to operate a Navigator Valdez, but the typical owner isnt a good driver to begin with. Add to this the fact that they are always on their cell phones. Ive seen women on cell phones in downtown Chicago, merging onto 90/94, which is a merge from the left lane. How can you possibly do this well? I am forced to constantly keep a finger on the horn for fear that i wont been seen near such behemoths.

My new thing now whenver i meet someone who has bought a new SUV is to ask them:
1. Do you off-road?
2. Do you tow?
3. (if no to above) then why did you get a SUV?

If you do not tow or off-road, an AWD wagon or AWD minivan will do a much better job than a SUV, but they just arent "cool" enough for soccer moms.

I get angry at these consumers, but as people have noted, the auto makers are to blame as well. As much as i hate Japanese car companies (this is not flame bait) i applaud that at least they are making the RAV4 and CRV's and what not. At least these things are more effecient, and wont cause my A4 to submarine under it in an accident.
Pretty soon we will see cow catchers on the front and back of SUV's to protect cars. Hell, Ford already offers pedals that adjust out, so the soccer mom can actually reach the pedals (at least she sits way up high now )

I hope that people would come to their senses about getting SUV's when you dont need them, we need to price gas like the Europeans do to get auto makers back on track.
