It's out of I think a 2001, car has over 130K, was wrecked in the side, but the whole setup is there, but does not run. Guy says it ran ok, but one turbo is blown, other has play. But everything is there, he says will sell me everything for the conversion to my 98 2.8Q Avant (which we all know will practically bolt right in). I have started already building the single-turbo conversion, but it will be very time-consuming, but cheaper. But this guy says he will sell me everything for like 1500 if i will pull it myself. I am debating whether this is a "screaming deal" or a major moneyhog waiting to happen, that I will regret later. Not sure...I have to let him know by tomorrow...

Buy, part and resell. If you want a fast Avant save your pennies for a real B5S4 avant.
Yes, you have the appropriate subframe for the motor and trans, but there's a lot of other small things you'd definitely need (Instrument cluster, uprights, bearings/spindles perhaps - probably only the tip of the iceberg)
I'd skip or take advantage of the deal to sell the motor.

No--getting just the motor conversion---no trans. But I am certain that
my 5-speed will handle everything quite well. can't think of a reason why it wouldn't work.
Both cars are manual.

i would buy it just in the off chance that you were going to ever buy a S4.
Stg 3 conversion would be almost a 24 hour car off the road situation instead of a longer wait.

I think it's funny how more and more people are showing up here with questions, or, in this case
a statement, of how easy it is to swap an 2.7TT S4 engine into an A4. ...with comments like... it'll bolt right up!
I've helped with a build of a 98.5 1.8T with an S4 engine et al and it wasn't a weekend job as many think it is. And, with the value of an S4 these days, just buy one and sell the A4 or keep it when you need it because you are going to need it.
