Default Quattro - the unfair advantage ;) 3 of my 5 vehicles are AWD...

4 out of 6 if I didn't get rid of the Talon. Eventually 4 out of 5 when I convert one to 323GTX specs (always a car I wanted years ago).

I don't need it 80% of the time, but it's nice to know it's there for the rest of the 20% - i.e. going up to Tahoe, autoX, track, launching hard in any weather. The rest of the time, they consume more fuel, but on my Montero, it's a must to have it on AWD (30/70 split) all the time because it doesn't have ABS (AWD helps prevent locking rears) and it helps with stability on straights and corners.

For a car, it's just a fun factor. But if I didn't care about AWD, I wouldn't care about Audi

Default Actually my dealership did the clutch/LSD install for about $1,000 (which is a good price I'm told).

The differential is a real PITA to install from what I hear. The Quaife and other parts came to another $1,100.

Impressions? Significant improvement in handling! Wheel spin off the line is greatly reduced (even in the rain) and my car takes the corners much easier...what is this "torque steer" that people mentioned? ;-) I had the LSD and WOA clutch installed in anticipation of a turbo upgrade kit, I don't know if I would have spent the money otherwise. For a chipped FWD, it's a very good mod...but the price of admission is steep.

Default Wow

And your dealership is honoring your full Audi Assured warranty? Where at?

So LSD install at roughly 1K? And then another $1,100 for the parts and labor? That doesn't sound horrific, imho, since I can imagine it having a great and tremendous effect. Where did you get the parts from? I'm seriously contemplating doing something like this to my 02, and I've been thinking about it for a while now. I could actually add quattro to my 02 since the B6 is independent in the rears now, but I think I'd rather go quaife if I do something like this.

Thanks for any help. I plan on keeping my ride for a while, so I want to explore all options

Default WTF? I strongly disagree w/that....

I could have afforded the extra grand for quattro easily. Hell, at 29,000 whats an extra 1000 on top? I chose not to get quattro for the mere reason that I don't need it her in Cali where I'm at.
I wouldn't say that the FT is the 'cheap' entry level model where quattro is the upgrade; that's asinine.

Default I received the Quaife during a GB last spring that I found out about at VW Vortex.

Get a hold of Peter at The Scirocco, he gets the differentials at a good price. I e-mailed you regarding the location of the dealer (prying AoA eyes ya know ;-)

TheScirocco.com
