GACK! My Avant almost poisoned me....
I got stuck in a tunnel this morning due to a broken down van. The A/C compressor wouldn't turn on because it was 32 degrees. Without the A/C on the recirc wouldn't activate. I was sucking fumes for 20 minutes. This is poor engineering design in my opinion!

I'll check, but I'm almost certain my AC will operate at temps below 32; I think I've used it to get rid of interior windshield fogup in winter.
I have had 3 or 4 instances in which the AC just will not come on unless I kill the engine and restart. Something in the computerized heat/ac system maybe? next time you can't get the AC to activate, try the restart drill.

If it's any consolation, the ventilation system in the tunnel is designed to allow you just enough
oxygen to survive, even if the tunnel was filled with running buses. So, you see, you didn't really need that recirc button anyway! Feel better? :-)
