Gear shifts - does a 2.8 feel different than a 1.8?
Drove a 2.8 w/ 60,000 miles on it today, and the shifter gave zero feedback, pretty much was the smoothest gear shift i've ever driven. Not sure if this is a "desired" effect but my question is, are 2.8's less notchy than a 1.8? was this car just very worn in? I'm used to my S4 which has just the perfect amount of glide/feedback.
Thanks

Bruck, My S4 shifter sux compared to the A4 1.8
I do have the short shifter on both.
I forget what the A4 stock shifter felt like but the A4 with a short shifter is perfect! S4 with a Tanoga is still too notchy when compared to the A4.

Absolutely!
I have the Neuspeed on the A4. It reduces the height as well as the throw. The feel is perfect. I can shift 2nd to 3rd with a slight push of the palm and 3rd to 4th with a flick of the two middle fingers. Yet it gives enough feedback.
In my book the short shifter is the best mod for the money.

Boris, you're killing me.
S should be here in just over a week, tanoga has been ordered! :-( I kinda liked Andy's shifter (tanoga) that's why I went with it. It was a little short for my tastes, but felt very solid. Hmmmm.
You coming to Avantfest this year?

Don't get me wrong. Tanoga is worth it for the S4, it's just that...
the shifter feel in S4 overall has a long way to go to match the feel of A4. Short shifter helps but still the Neuspeed A4 SS is my favorite..

OTOH, the S4 clutch catches where it's supposed to, about 25% off the floor, not the 75% of the A4. And the 6th gear is nice...
Congrats on the S4. You will love it! Whatever the clutch / shifter feel is you will get used to it in a week of driving. However I did stall mine twice on the way home from the dealer, trying to unlearn the A4 clutch.
