general clutch question

Default general clutch question

buddy of mine has 97 a4 1.8t and his clutch went and i reccommended him to upgrade it since he had to purchase a new one anyways. i did some general searches and from what i have read it isnt bad to go with spec 2 or 3 clutch if you arent putting out high hp numbers yet. it seemed like there was some scepticism but for most part as long as your jsut daily driving its fine. and when he does get on it hard by that time he will have some greater hp numbers hopefully. my friend plans to do some basic modding and already has GIAC chip in her. basically id like to know if he should go with flywheel as well and if the spec 2 clutch is a wise decision or if should just go stock oem. should i tell him to look into AWE or MTM? tia

Default there is absolutely no reason to have a stage 3 clutch with just a chip

i have a stage 2 on my car and i'm stage 3. the stage numbers have to do with the amount of hp the clutch can handle. if he is planning more, i would say go stage 2 clutch with an oem flywheel (might just resurface his).
and clutches dont make hp

i know clutches dont create hp dont think i mentioned that anywhere. i also know that he doesnt have much hp now but plans to do some work in the future. but see the point where he is now he only has a chip therefore no necessary for clutch greater then stage 1 even. my question is is it alright to drive with stage 2 lets say even though he doesnt have high hp. im concerned daily driving will be impared. thats all. thanks for reply chipster

Default no. my stage 2 feels very similar to stock

its almost kind of annoying as i like a very stiff clutch feel. there are no adverse affects there, once he gets used to it. if he went with a LWF, there might be problems there
