GL5 or GL4 in front/center diff on a Tip?
Is it safe to dump some Redline 75w-90 GL5 in to the front/center diff in a Tiptronic? Or should I play it safe and use the dual GL4/GL5 rated RoyalPurple insted?
No def answers in the past.

I used the Audi fluid in my diff, no sense in taking chances, but if you really want an alternative
I would stick with the royal purple, i've used it in my quattros in the past and had no ill effects.

GL4 is required for syncros, but since there are none, GL5 is probably fine. I'd check...
...the owner's manual. It should give you a spec for both the front diff and the center diff, but I believe that all three diffs take GL5.

GL-5 for diffs. GL-4 for manual trans. Dual-rated gear oil goes in either. ATF for auto trans.
The only reason not to use GL-5 in trans is shift feel and syncro life from poor engagment, it will however help gear whining in a damaged trans. GL-5 will not corrode yellow metals, brass and bronze syncros. That is an old issue and since then only de-activated sulphur additives are in use in gear lubes.
