Default Gonna experiment with running E85.

We finally have some E85 stations around, and since my ECU will let me use it, I'm gonna give it a shot. I'm not worried about the fuel lines and injectors, they should be OK. There are a bunch of people running older Audi's on E85 but I don't think any A4's.

I will have a switch mounted in the cabin which switches between a gasoline map and an e85 map incase I need to fill with regular gas. Not as elegant as a flex fuel sensor but that's too much work. I always keep a laptop in the car incase I run into any issues as well.

Not going to run it all the time (just 1 tank to start)

I am expecting to get flamed for this, but I don't care Open to any suggestions as well.

Default I don't see why people would flame.

It will allow for race gas power, but not the race gas price. 9:1 ftw!

Default Yea...we'll see.

One thing I just thought of is that it's not really E85 in the winter, it has more gasoline, E70 or something? But I don't know the ethanol/gas mix which would throw off tuning. I might wait till it gets warmer out, but I'm definitely going to play around with it.

Default how do you have a e85 map? and how is it switchable via the cabin?

not that i understand the logic of running e85 anyway.

Default Nice. You got that paint scheme?

That was my favorite for last year. What other bikes do you have (or have you had)? If you don't mind me asking...

Default Don't really need to re-map...

The main fueling calculation in my ECU is based on the size of the injectors, displacement, and the AFR for stoich (currently 14.7) This gives me a "required fuel" value of 4.8 ms. (total amount of fuel injected per cycle of the engine) All I would have to do is change the stoich value to the value of E85 which is around 9.7:1 AFR, and it would increase the fuel to the engine accordingly. I won't actually have to change the fueling map (perhaps a little bit, since it has different characteristics, but not much at all)

Default Yep...SE white. I think I'm gonna take the flames off.

prior bikes... ninja 250 and 03 sportster 1200. I'm a fatass and wanted a big, heavy sport touring bike good for long trips that doesn't get blown all over the expressway. I don't like the concours so this was the next step (down? lol)

Quick Reply: Gonna experiment with running E85.
