Good Friday to all.. I need some input,
I went to a stereo installer that I have used for some time now to get a quote on some upgrades to my 2000 1.8's stereo system. I do not want a box for bass nor do I want tubes in my trunk. I had a civic with enclosureless (sp) speakers mounted on a board placed directly flush to the back of the back seat. Only problem was I could not put the back seat down due to the speakers. My installer suggested creating a box that would go in my trunk (lookin in the trunk, left side where the indentation is to store things) He could make it look flat and the bass speaker would be unnoticeable. Yet, how would it sound. He said it would sound great but I would like yor input...
I do not need groung rattlin bass. I just enjoy crisp sound (I love the sound of Boston Pros)
Thank you gentlemen.

Re: Good Friday to all.. I need some input,
i say you get a stealth box which are expensive but very nice... youll still have all the trunk space and just the right amount of mass to match you with your bose stereo.. thats if you have one.. good luck..

I've seen similar setups..
I believe they're called 'stealth boxes'. Usually the speaker used in them is designed to need less air space. The sound will depend on wht kind of speaker you'll be getting, and how well the design of the enclosure is. Enclosure is VERY important. All in all though, I think you'll find that it will be a very acceptable solution to your dilemma. How much is the installer asking? What kind of speakers? I think it'll do nicely for tight, responsive bass, but you may suffer on the deep, low-end bass.

Have you looked at the JL stealthbox?
Its a custom enclosure that sits in an arch on the top of your trunk, and replaces your rear speakers with 2 8" woofers. JL, an extremely respected audio company, makes these custom for several cars, and the A4 is one of the cars that they make the box for. I know you were thinking the side of the trunk, but this box sits above, and largely preserves the trunk space. Check their website out, its jlaudio.com or something like that.
