Got 2 cool pieces of mail yesterday
1. European Car with the '100 Years of Audi' feature.
Really cool articles.
2. The Audi 'High Security Cars - A6 & A8' brochure.
Super cool stuff in here. A couple of choice paragraphs:
:
"The load area and emergency protection module can make an important contribution in the event of a kidnapping: if the victim is locked into the luggage compartment, he or she can switch on the lights, lock the car's doors, switch off the engine and open the luggage compartment lid."
"...Another option is remote starting of the engine from a safe distance away, in case explosive charges have been wired to the ignition."
"...And for active defence, a weapon holder can be provided in the centre rear armrest and spherical gun ports in the right door and rear doors."
"Generous areas plated with composite aramid and steel resist even hand grenade damage to the roof or floor pan."
Some cool pics of run flat-tires, weapons holders, etc are in the book.
I probably don't need one of these cars here in Utah... but wow!

Don't ask me how I know, but . . .
the glass in the President's limo costs more than the original Cadillac that they start with. The reason you see an agent holding the door for him is that the door weights about 400 lbs. Takes and RPG and keeps on ticking.

Re: Just read that BMW has something similar...
Doesn't sound as cool as Audi's new toy though.

2000 BMW 7-Series: New Armored Models
The standard 7-Series models are the $62,400 740i, $66,400 740iL and $92,100 750iL. Added are the $99,400 740iL Protection and $124,400 750iL Protection light-armored models. They have features including armoring of critical body panels with strong Aramide fiber-reinforcing material that doesn't add undue weight, bullet-resistant glass and special 17-inch alloy wheels with run-flat tires.
These models only weigh about 300-350 pounds more than the standard 7-Series models and thus retain pretty good performance and handling response.

7-series
