groaning from steering gear
The cooler weather has brought back a problem I had before, which is a loud groaning from the steering gear (pump?) on startup. It gradually diminishes but does not go away. The last time this occurred I was still under warranty, and the dealer replaced the pump, I think (have to check my records). Now I'm out of warranty, and I definitely do not want to pay for another new pump. Anybody else had this problem? Any suggestions are welcome. (fluid isn't low, by the way, and it's not belt squeal, but a low groaning that gets louder as I turn the wheel.)

Re: groaning from steering gear
unfortunately, i had that same problem as well. and it was related to the steering column. i believe that the mechanic said that it was the steering pump, if it is that bronze coloured thing located next to the tie rod for the right front wheel, which can be seen from either the wheel hub (front right) or from the engine bay (on the left, while facing the car, somewhere behind the firewall). i hope that helped.
