Have her try a Jetta 1.8T
My girlfriend wanted an a4 but couldn't afford it. Instead she got the jetta 1.8t with the 5 speed. Boy is that thing fun to drive! Much quicker than my 2.8Q with Tip. And, for $21K fully loaded it was a great deal. They are sometimes hard to find. We bought ours through carsdirect.com
