Having front CA's done in a few weeks...should I do the front wheel bearings at the same time?

Both rears have been replaced, but no sign of fronts going out. Mech. said he would do them for $150 in labor plus parts which is cheap. Have 78k on the clock...any thoughts?

If it ain't broke don't fix it...
Plus an additional $150 in labor?? He already has to do the hard part to get at the CA's. You are paying him $150 to press out the bearings and put new ones in!

I would do it since you'll already be in there (or your mechanic will)...
I just finished doing my front CAs and decided to do the front bearing while I was in there. Then I decided to replace the front shocks too which lead me to replacing the rear shocks AND bearing too. I figured if I was in there....
I have to say that when I examined the removed bearing, only one of the four bearings showed any signs of pitting the others were fine. I think it was my front left bearing. I am still glad that I replaced them. I plan on keeping the car for a while and so sooner or later I'd be doing bearings.
If your rears already needed replacing I would definitely replace the front while the front end is apart. It will cost a LOT more if it is needed later.

78k and they havent been replaced before? Bearings cost $50-80
so ~$230 for the whole thing. I had one of mine done for $250. I guess I'd so go for it, as they are known to go bad but its not an amazing deal. Like Ertman said...all the work is done, he just has to press out the old bearings and press the new ones in
