Heck of a time trying to remove my alternator (1998 A4 2.8 B5)
Thanks!
. It's enough to discourage the week-end warrior from trying to do it and encourage (actually force) owners to bring it in to their Audi dealer.
Thanks!
From personal experience, I have found it a wise decision to remove the starter motor as well while the alternator is out and take both to a local automotive electrical specialist to have them overhauled. Local specialist shops usually do a much better job using OEM parts and testing each component than any 'remanufactured' or 'rebuilt' units from the Internet or chain parts shops. That way you avoid a 'core' charge and also know they will fit back into your vehicle.
