help?

i'm thinking of buying either an a4 1.8 or a jetta vr6 and need some convincing. which should i get???

I also considered the vr6 Jetta, but bought the Audi. I couldn't be happier. Yes, the stock vr6 is a sweet engine, but the turbo (especially if you're willing to chip it) is a blast as well. Similar to the Passat vs. A4 posts earlier, the Audi is just a nicer car overall.

A4 is a much better car all around.

I looked at the Jetta when I was buying. Just not as nice.<p>Tom

A4 w/quattro and sport. more $$$ but much better handler out of the box

I test drove both and went A4 1.8t Quattro Manual

I drove the top of the line Jetta GLX with manual, V6, monsoon sound, leather blah blah. And I actually thought it was a very nice car UNTIL i drove an A4 1.8t Quattro. Then it was instantly no contest. Sure, the Jetta was an easy 3-4k cheaper but it wasn't even CLOSE to as nice as the Audi. Interior and exterior styling, quality, the works WAY better with the Audi. I mean the Jetta is a nice car, cute, pretty even but even the 1.8t Jetta I wouldn't take over the Audi. And we're not even getting into the performance aspects of it. The 5 speed in the Jetta was laughable compared to the A4 and the suspension (sports package! ha!) was a joke. The GLX or VR6 Jettas certainly give all the young college ladies who drive them a feeling of power and performance but for any person (male or female) who has any real idea of what auto high performance is like the Jetta isn't in the same class as the A4.

If you DO go with a Jetta (and only do that if money is a real concern) then get the 1.8t and not the CRUMMY V6. You'll save $1000-2000 over the V6 and with a $400-500 chip you'll be running circles around it.
