Default HELP with Chips, Exhaust, WHAT TO DO?

I have a 1999.5 Audi A4 1.8T Quattro. I want to put a little more pick-up and go in the car. I have read some of the reviews from people, but I was wondering if any one had something new to say. I have been looking at the AutoAuthority chip for $400. It is supposedly pretty good, anyone know? I am looking for some info., websites, something to help me out. Plus will this be hard on my car to up the turbo on it? This is the first car I have ever owned with a turbo so I do not not know too much about the subject area. If anyone can help please drop me a line. Thanks alot!

Default Some Basics

Autothority is a respected tuner which has been around for a while. Posts from folks who have their chip have been quite positive. Everyone seems to think the chip they have is the best, and as long as the company stands behind it and it is properly programmed (so as not to run lean or creat other problems) most are fine.

As for reliability, this will be affected in the long term. But how much it will be affected remains a big question. The KKK K03 (the A4's stock turbo) is rated to 1.0 bar of boost, so most chips are within spec. Audi sells the A4 with 180hp in Europe so it would seem the internals can handle the power. Consensus seems to be that propper care and maintenance (regular oil and filter changes, good gas, warm up before hard driving and cool down before shut down, etc.) will have as much impact on the engine life as the chip.

Regards,
Rodney

I have had the AutoThority chip in my 99 Passat 1.8TM for about ten months and 14K miles. It is completely what I hoped for. No change in light driving and a total transformation when you step on it. They installed it along with a K&N. The dealer has since done routine svc three times with no problems. The car has 25K now (14 months) and has been perfect - not one problem since new... NO regrets, esp with the AutoThority purchase!

Default I'm pleased with it after having it fo a week.....

It really is noticeable at about 3000 to 5000 rpms. I chose the entire ecu ($700.00); and Auto-thority for it's expressed concern for long term reliability, enhancement of everyday drivability - not track racer, 20 years of experience in the field, softened rev limiter, excellent reviews from owners, Car and Driver used them, and a good warrantee. This is how the car should come, although it tempts my thirst for more. The smoothness is still there as with stock, power is addicting, and it sounds a bit more throaty. Now, reliablity will be an issue because of the way I drive now, not just from the chip itself.
