HELP with dreaded control arm problem (???)
Well, about 500 miles ago or so, after more than a month of not driving our 98.5 A4, I noticed a clunking noise coming from the front passenger side of the car. Initially only when wheels were turned and going over some bump, but quickly after that happening over most bumps even when going straight. "The control arm is gone", I said to myself. So I scheduled it to be replaced next Monday.
So where's the problem, you say? Well, this weekend we took the car to Fallingwater PA (highly recommended BTW) and on the way I couldn't resist the urge to punch it to 100. When I was braking after this brief stunt, the brakes started vibrating really bad - it sounded like a truck engine-braking. It was scary, but it only lasted until we reached 80 or so. Every time after that when we tried to brake from 75-80, we would get this sound and vibration.
So what do you think? Still just a control problem, or something worse? BTW, I did not do the tie-end recall either.
