help! how do i disconnect the headlight harness connector?

I'm in the middle of removing my orange inserts in my 2000 A4. i just can't get the connector off. i'm an idiot. please respond quickly. thanks in advance.

There's a metal clip.

It kinda wraps around the connector in a grove to keep the connector from falling off. This clip has to be pulled out to the outside of the car before the connector will come free.

This is on a 99 with the separate headlight and corner housings. If may differ.
