HEEEELP...my local Audi stealership is trying to rape me! I have a 97 A4Q V6. The HVAC "head unit" had an electrical failure on the heating blend control side and alas, I have very little heat in the cabin.
Part number: 8LO 820 043 B

Audi wants to replace the control unit with a new one to the tune of $1040(!) ... The part alone is $670!

Does ANYONE know where to get one of these used? Can ANYONE recommend a good Audi salvage yard or recycler?

What ever happened to sending parts into a electrician for repair. Everything else is working perfect, so I can only assume a resistor or something has gone bad (I'm not an electrian) ... sigh, guess it goes with the spoils of living in a disposable consumer society.

Is he certain it's in the control head and not the HVAC unit where the blend doors are?

Hmmm. Not exactly sure. The service tech sent me an exploded diagram and the arrow points to the headunit. I don't see doors in the diagram, so my guess is that this part sends the signal to the door and tells them to Open and Close
