help : problem with computer display

My display between the speedometer and tach does not show anything (just black) where it normally shows CD track, kms to travel left in the gas tank, average L/100kms, etc.
When I start the car, the display does light up and displays the message 'Apply foot brake when...'; so this indicates to me (guess here) that the display does work but whatever sends information to the display is not working.
Also, when I hit the 'check' button, the display will show the check sequence, oil, water temp, etc.
Does anybody know what I need to replace to make this work again?

your display is turned off. see manual to turn on.

hahha - RTFM - funny that's what I usually tell others as well

Well, I got it working again by hitting the reset button under the windshield washer switch - FYI the manual I have doesn't say anything about the reset switch.
