Default Help with programming of keyless entry.

I have tried 3 seperate programming instructions i've found on here but to no avail. My questions and problems are as follows.

I have an 1998 Audi A4 2.8l 30V Quattro.

I purchased a remote on ebay with the FCC ID: MZ2 410 819 6 4 It has Unlock/Trunk Open/Lock/Panic buttons on it.

I checked the batteries in the remote and they are both fine at 3v.

Questions.

1) When i follow these programming instructions on here, when it tells me to insert key 1 and insert key 2 (does key 2 have to be a seperate key from the remote? or can it be the remote key itself?) I only have 2 keys now. One 1 piece key and another keyless entry that i just got the key cut for (this is what im trying to program)

2) When it says turn key to ON does that mean turn the car on? or turn the key to accessory ON?

3) If my car does not have the trunk release in it, will the remote still work (minus the trunk release button)? Or is it a MUST that i purchase a remote that only has the lock/unlock on it?

4) When i attempt to program this remote my car makes no noises or lights up at all. In a couple of the instructions it says my car should honk its horn quickly to indicate it has communicated with my remote etc. Is this true? Will the car always do something externally to indicate the remote is in communication with the car?

Default Is your control module coded to work with keyless remote?

If not you will need a VAG-COM

Default I have absolutely no idea if its coded to work with keyless or not.

When i bought the car it came with only 1 key.

Is there any way to check to see if its coded for it or not besides going to the dealer? I know VAG is a scanning/computer tool. Is it easy for dealership to unlock the remote option?

Default Yeah, but I had trouble with the dealer my self.

I had a 98.5 and it didn't come with remotes, but every A4 from 97+ has the ability. Just some were sold with out the option so the central locking module wasn't coded to allow programing of the remotes. My dealer tried to tell me my car wasn't capable of remotes. I had to program it my self.

Couple of resources for you...

No remotes!
A4 1998+ with Concert/Symphony radio and anti-theft system
Standard Coding: 03340

Remotes!
S4, A4 1998+ with Concert/Symphony radio, anti-theft system and keyless entry
Standard Coding: 16140

Default a few answers...

1.)Put 1 piece key in ignition, your key you are programming in the
2.)When it says on, it means on position. Not car on.
3.)I tried using a remote with trunk release on it on my 98.5 without trunk release, and ended up buying a remote without before it worked.
4.)Unless someone modded the central locking with VAG-COM it should honk horn, at least lights will flash.

Default i had the same problem....

i actually got it working at one point. i had to VAG it and clear out some fault codes in the central locking module, then after a few tries i managed to get the car to respond to the remote.

everything worked fine until my battery died and now i cant get the effing thing to work again to save my life
