Default Help -- switching between synthetic & dino oils...

Ya can't trust a girl with cars! (No offense to the women on AW of course).

My sister recently bought a 2001 VW Jetta, used with 25k miles on it. At the 30k oil change, I put in M1 5w-30.

She just got the 35k service done yesterday at a local shop (the same place where I took it for the 30k service), and she had them change the oil.
Of course she did not bring any synthetic oil with her. God only knows what kind of oil they put in the car.

It is the normally aspirated 2.0L 4-banger, so it doesn't really need synthetic, the way the 1.8T does. But should I be concerned about the health of the engine, having used synthetic for 5k miles, and then going back to dino oil?

Thanks,
Peter

Default no probs. I know some race teams that race on dino oil!

if you change it often enough (in their case after every race), it doesn't really matter. As for your question regarding the switch, I dont think modern cars have problems with switching between oils (especially after the break-in period like the car you mentioned).

regards,
Liam
