Default Hey Ed! I'm almost done with the mute board and have a Question

How can I tell the polarity of the .1 Uf capacitors? I have two different kinds and neither has one pin which is longer or any kind of plus/minus markings.

Also, how do I connect the two boards when I'm through?

Here's pics of both sides of the cap.

This side, the big one says
M
104Z
25V

Small one:
15M

This side, big one has nothing
small one has 104

Here's the board so far.

Default Those are non-polarity type caps. Not sure if they will fit, but...

one is a ceramic disc, the other is an"orange drop" poyester film cap. The polarity(if it's a polarized cap), is CRITICAL. make sure you look carefully at the diagram on that webpage.

As for tying the two together, you are gonna make me work, aren't you

I'll try and finish it up this weekend for you and update the page. The details, if you are inclined are in the schematic file that is linked off of the page. The pinouts for the connectors are described in it. You NEED the crimp terminals AND the housing that matches the one on the Nokia board. You wire up a new plug, with the other ends of the wires going to the 14 pin plug that then goes into the interface board. BTW that blue connector is ONE HONKING BEAST. that's not the one I speced, but will work. I assume you HAVE it's mate?

Default Oops. I don't have its mate. And it is huge.

I didn't know which to get and this one didn't fit on the board (if you look closely at the picture, I had to cut one side off of it.

I think I should be able to put the two together from just the schematic. So, those caps are probably non-polarity and may or not work?

I'll just pop them in and hope for the best.

Thanks Ed.

Default non-polarity, as in it doesn't matter. They will work if you can get them in.

becareful of the leads crossing, or you'll find out how useful that resettable fuse is...

I can get you the part number for the ones I used...

Default Can you get me the part number for the 14 pin header?

I'm gonna take the blue one out.

Default Sure.....

These are the parts I used. I got them from www.mouser.com. By far one of the best on-line places, next to digikey. Do NOT ever shop at Newark.com, unless absolutely necessary. They will RIP you off on shipping.

Anyway, from mouser...

571-1033112 double row 14 pin header
571-1023872 2 row housing
571-860163 crimp terminals (get 18)

Default Re: motorola hands-free integration

Am I missing something...?
I can't seem to find any documentation in this forum on a motorola hands-free
kit integration into an a4. Particularly the mute function. Did you or someone else come up with a solution? If so please respond to this with the location of a schematic, parts list, etc.
Thanks.
