Octane rating has nothing to do with purity or cleanliness of the fuel
In fact higher octane fuels have more additives floating around in the blend. The additives decrease volatility, in effect this makes the fuel harder to burn spontaneously, less likely to detonate.
High octane fuel being "cleaner" is the result of marketing and a confusion between detergents and their effects. Many premium fuels have additives that also help prevent or remove combustion product deposits, but these same additives are often in the regular fuel as well.
