How do the stock 15inch tires hold up in the snow? (NYC area)

I went through this years snow with 17" P6000 performnance tread
are you actually in manhattan...if so I wouldnt worry about it. I am upstate a little and have stock 15" goodyear eagles on my 98 A4 and it was fine.

They are fine.
Nothing spectacular...typical all season tire. As long as you understand the limits of your tires, you'll be fine. Predicting the boundless stupidity of others is a little more complicated....
