How much over invoice, would be appropriate..
I am buying new AUDI A4 and I am wondering how much shall I pay over invoice.
I will be ordering one to my specifications (three months wait), so a assume dealer should give me some discount because that is a guarantee for dealer that will sell the car.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Re: How much over invoice, would be appropriate..
The reason they would want to give a discount is because they won't have to pay floor plan to a bank (points the bank charges to a dealer to loan them the money to keep inventory), however, conversely they are also more motivated to sell the vehicles they have on the lot because they are paying points on those vehicles. Aside from that conundrum, expect to pay at least a grand to 1500. Audi lots have no dealer holdback paid to them from Audi (dealer hold backs are usually 3% and are intended to let a lot go about three months before taking a hit on their floor plan).
In short, I've had three different sound sources that have told me 1200 to 1400 is a great price. Keep in mind that dealer invoice is invoice + delivery. Don't let them get you with the following, as they are NOT "invoice": marketing fee, processing fee, documentary fee, etc. These are simply costs of doing business. You should pay invoice + profit + tax + license and title fees. Good luck. Go to edmunds.com for everything you'd ever want to know about buying a car.

http://www.edmunds.com</a

4-6% over is fairly common
The dealer may not see it as a guarantee that you will buy the car if you order it so expect to put some money down up front ($500-1000 USD) but make sure it is refundable. I have seen a few people here have to back out of orders in the past. I paid $500 over for my 99.5. How did I do this? I'm not really sure, but I was very informed about what I wanted and I had talked to 5 different dealers (no Audi dealer in my town) and had two of them down to $1500 over invoice on an order then one of them offered me $500 over on my second color choice (which I now like better) that was on his lot. It was too good to pass up. Be informed (go to edmunds like tk suggested and try carwizard.com), know what you want, and don't appear to be in a hurry to get it. Good luck.
