How are the plastic moldings that are halfway up our doors attached?

How are the plastic moldings that are halfway up our doors attached?
I've seen a few cars without these pieces and it has a clean look.
Just wondering how they are attached and how easy it is to take off?

Really, I thought that they would be held on by adhesive....
Not the black molding at the bottom of the doors, but the 2" wide halfway up?
So when the bodyshop shaves the molding on the door, they have to repaint?? $$$$ - I guess

How expensive is it to do?
I saw that the person that goes by the name "clumpymold" has it done and I'm pretty sure Chelsea's (phataudi) car has it done to hers. That's where I got the idea from.
