I found the source of an annoying "clonk" that keeps coming from under the car!
It's been driving me mad for years. I was always afraid I'd be losing something from under the car when I hit a bump on the road. On a washboard road it would even rattle.
Today I spent a few hours under the car (don't ask, it'a different story), and I found the source of the "clonk"! It's the frigging shifter linkage that's sort of loose. Everything seems to be in order, so I guess it's a normal A4 noise...

Check on the passenger side along the tranny
You'll see the shifter linkage up there. Reach up and rattle around on it. There are actually two linkages. One seems to be be nice and tight, the other one has what looks like a small universal joint, which can rattle around.
