Classroom in a book series is pretty good. Amazon, Fatbrain, they all carry them.

Default You should be able to rip one out in @5 minutes, Photoshop is so easy....
just kidding. I would suggest going thru the online tutorial to start using the basic tools of Photoshop. It is a very, very deep product. You will be limited mostly by your imagination.
Have fun with it, there's a bunch of online respources (just do a search) for various techniques. There's a multitude of plug ins as well. I wouldn't mess with the shareware/free stuff, you'll just clutter your system. Get a high quality plug-in package as others have mentioned..

Play around. You don't need plug-ins. 6.0 already has more features than you can imagine.
