I just got my APR chip for 2000 A4 and I'm hearing a strage . . .
I hear a rattling [clicking] sound upon hard acceleration. Could that be detonation? I hope not. I did not hear that sound with the stock ECU and first heard it when I took my test drive after chipping. Any ideas? Thank you

With the car shut off, turn the ignition to ON but DO NOT START THE CAR.
Let it sit like that for 2-5 minutes. This is a necessary step in installing the ECU with the new chip, and if you didn't do it before, do it now.

Probably . . .
hearing a ping. My first action would be to check the quality of the fuel. I have about 20k on my 2000 with APR v3.0, and nary a noise of any kind except the spool up. I use mainly ARCO, which in CA is 92 octane. Good luck.

Most likely...
My car made a similar noise too when I test drove it (bought car used last year and had Wett chip already). But the car lot most likely put 87 Octane gas in it and now I run Sunoco 94 without any problems. As wmdunn suggested below, check the grade of your gas.
How long does the sound last? If it's only for a brief second, the knock sensors are doing it's job adjusting the timing. Probably just some minor pinging. If it lasts longer, I'd be a little more concerned.
