Default I need help diagnosing a chirping noise coming from my engine...

It's an early 2001 1.8T with almost 70,000 miles.

At idle it sounds like a
chirp....chirp....chirp....chirp...chirp

Give it throttle and it just gets faster like
chirp.chirp.chirp.chirp.chirp.chirp

The noise is the same whether the engine is hot or cold. I STFA and I'm led to believe it's a loose belt, but I'm not sure.

TIA

Do the belt change. It'll likely go away.

Proberly the tensioner for the ribbed belt,
open the bonnet and watch the tensioner moving and see if it's in time with the chirping.

I see...do I need to remove the engine cover or anything else to see the tensioner?

Default This is probably it.

If you get the car on a lift, you can change the tensioner from below. I think there's just 2 6mm hex bolts holding it on.

OK, this is the tensioner for the TB right?

no, for the serpentine belt...no shortcuts for TB tensioner. Gotta "remove the front of the car"...
