I'd like to buy a 99.5 1.8TQM, but when I call people with the cars, I can't ask if they have a "99 and a half", because no one knows what I'm talking about. How did you guys specify that the 99 you were calling about was really a 99.5? Ask them if it had fogs? anything else?

Dealers are the worst, they'll tell you what you want to hear just to get you onto their lot.


But I've got to say, a 99.5 is one of the coolest "vintages" of the A4, with the new body style, but the red face guages...very nice.

Ideally I'd buy a 1.8TQM with sports suspension and sports seats, with Volcano black as a first choice, but if I ever want to find the car, I can't get too specific on the color.

That's easy, just ask them when they bought the car. Ask for the VIN number too and run a carfax.

to tell it's not a 99 or below is if it has fog lights. I'm less sure on this one, but I believe the easiest way to tell it's not a 00 or above is by the all red dash lighting and the single DIN head unit. Check me on those last two via the search.

Also, I just wanted to point out that that's my exact car! A fine choice all around.
