No one had any idea or answered when I posed the problem, but just in case anyone was curious.

They updated the software to allow other devices (including dension) to work with user interface (so you can click ipod buttons). Before you could get to the options list but not actually select from the options (user interface being the top). When I asked the store they said they knew about the problem. At least they finally fixed it. I was about to yank dension and give it to bro.
